Our Story
Helping unique individuals discover their gifts, serve God, and look forward to a brighter future.
Anchor serves adults with a disability. We currently serve residents who reside in group homes in southern Ontario. We also offer occasional respite care in four of our five homes. Our support comes mainly from the Canadian Reformed and United Reformed churches, combined with membership fees and corporate donations. We are not funded by the provincial government which allows us to maintain our identity as Reformed, Christian Homes. Admission to our homes is restricted to families from the supporting churches who retain membership with Anchor Christian Homes, as outlined in the By-laws.
Each resident has unique gifts with which to serve God and the community. Some residents help with chores inside the home, while others do volunteer work in the community. However, most of our residents are employed on a part-time basis. The residents’ lives are enriched by the many volunteers who take the residents on outings and show their love and support.

1976
July: Several individuals and parents of children with a disability met in Hamilton, Ontario to discuss supporting individuals with a disability within the Canadian Reformed Church community. A steering committee was formed, and the organization was established as the Anchor Canadian Reformed Association for the Handicapped.
1977
It was decided the home would be financed by the Canadian Reformed Churches rather than government assistance. Constitution and By-laws were discussed, prepared, and approved.
1986
February: Opening of Anchor Home near Burlington, Ontario, serving two adults.
September: The current residence of Anchor Home in Grimsby, Ontario, was purchased.
1987
November: A third resident was admitted to the Grimsby home. Plans were prepared for rezoning and extension of the building.
2002
June: Anchor purchased a second home in Burlington called Twin Oaks to serve individuals who are more self-sufficient.
2003
Anchor opened its doors to members of the United Reformed Churches (URC) with a disability.
2004
September: A third home, Beacon Home, was opened in Dunnville, Ontario (capacity: nine residents and one respite space).
2008
May: A new home called the Lighthouse was opened near Fergus, Ontario (capacity: eight residents and one respite space).
2014
May: A fifth home was established in Hamilton, Ontario, called Harbour Home.
2015
February: Following accessibility renovations, Harbour Home was opened (capacity: six residents and one respite space).
2023
The name of the organization was changed to Anchor Christian Homes.
August: A sixth home was purchased in Guelph, Ontario.
2025
December: The Landing was opened in Guelph (capacity: six residents). The first three residents moved in from Twin Oaks; the two homes merged, and Twin Oaks was subsequently sold.
